The pristine Pamlico Sound is home to boating, swimming, fishing, and many other amazing coastal activities, but for the weekend of April 15-17, it was home for thousands of Brothers gathered together at the largest sectional conclave in the nation. There were high numbers from each of the six lodges in Section SR-7B that came together in fellowship at Camp Boddie. Croatan Lodge was the gracious host and put together a great program with the theme of “Breaking the Barriers: Bonding in Brotherhood.” As the weekend progressed, the first conclave of the Order’s new century continued with high energy levels.

There were plenty of opportunities to get involved so one could not stay bored. There was of course the Order of the Arrow Experience, where many different exhibitors allowed participants to do everything from mallet building to cooking. There were also AIA competitions, our Pre-Ordeal Ceremony Team placed second overall. Along with ceremonies, there were competitions for singing, of which our lodge team participated, and dancing, where many of our lodge members participated and some placed for both Grass and Straight Dancing.

Throughout there was spirit as the Occoneechee Lodge banner flew high in the sky, the cheer of thunderbirds far from quiet at every gathering and show. Occoneechee also won the Quest for the Golden Arrow event and received the “I Support Camping” award on Sunday. Section elections occurred, of which Brandon Kelly, a Vigil member of our lodge, was elected as the Section Vice Chief of Program.

Everyone left with bright smiles and excitement for the next conclave. The weekend may have ended but the stories will continue as participants recount their experiences and adventures during the memorable weekend. We hope to see everyone, especially if you missed this year’s conclave, next year at Camp Raven Knob!
